Hurricanes edge closer to Minor Premiership after crushing Blues

The Hurricanes tightened their grip on top spot in Super Rugby Pacific with a commanding 47-24 victory over the Blues at Eden Park, extending their lead at the summit to five points with only two regular-season matches remaining.

The visitors exploded out of the blocks and never truly lost control, with winger Fehi Fineanganofo equalling the all-time Super Rugby single-season try-scoring record after crossing for his 16th try of the year.

Replacement halfback Eretara Enari orchestrated much of the attacking damage with three try assists, while tries from Warner Dearns, Jordie Barrett, Kini Naholo and Peter Lakai sealed a dominant night.

The Blues rallied late through a hat-trick to AJ Lam, but the Hurricanes had the final say with a late rolling-maul try securing a valuable bonus point.
