French authorities have detained a man, identified as Alex G, suspected of planning an attack on the Olympic torch relay in Bordeaux, announced Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin.

The suspect, who is reportedly “psychologically fragile,” had posted online messages glorifying crime and referencing Elliot Rodger, the Isla Vista killer.

Despite no specific target being mentioned, officials found incriminating materials, including a pellet gun, at his home.

This incident has heightened security concerns around the torch relay, which is part of a 12,000 km journey around France and its territories, especially following recent disruptions in New Caledonia.
