Matt Henry starred with the ball, taking 6-39 as New Zealand bowled out Zimbabwe for 149 on day one of the first Test in Bulawayo.
Supported by spinner Nathan Smith’s 3-20, the Black Caps then reached 92 without loss at stumps, trailing by just 57 runs. Openers Devon Conway (51\*) and Will Young (41\*) built a solid reply after Zimbabwe collapsed, with only a 54-run sixth-wicket stand offering resistance.
Missing regular leaders Tom Latham and Kane Williamson, the visitors were led by new captain Mitchell Santner. Zimbabwe, reeling from recent losses to South Africa, added Brendan Taylor to their squad for the second Test after his return from suspension for anti-corruption violations.
