Damian McKenzie became the Chiefs’ highest-ever try scorer in a dominant 62-17 win over Moana Pasifika at Rotorua International Stadium, clocking up his record 43rd try early in the second half to surpass Chiefs great Sitiveni Sivivatu.
The result pushed the Chiefs to the top of the Super Rugby Pacific table, pending the Hurricanes versus Blues clash, while the All Black playmaker also brought up 1500 points—only the second New Zealand player to reach that mark for one team, behind Dan Carter’s 1708 for the Crusaders.
McKenzie contributed 22 points through two tries and six conversions, while Moana Pasifika got on the board with a spectacular end-to-end try around the 50th minute and added two more in a better second half.
