Mea Motu falls short in historic title bid

Mea Motu’s bid to become New Zealand’s first unified world boxing champion ended in a unanimous points loss to Ellie Scotney in Nottingham, UK.

Despite a promising start, including an early cut above Scotney’s eye from a head clash, Motu struggled to unsettle her opponent, who displayed superior skill and grew stronger as the fight progressed.

Scotney dominated the 10-round bout, with judges scoring it 99-91, and praised Motu’s toughness and relentless style.

The loss marks Motu’s first defeat in 21 professional fights, but analysts believe her tenacity ensures she will remain a formidable force in the division.
