New Zealand tightened their grip on the second Test at The Oval, ending day three with a commanding 352-run lead after Henry Nicholls produced an unbeaten century and Rachin Ravindra added a valuable 76.
England’s hopes were hurt by two missed chances behind the stumps from debutant wicketkeeper James Rew, allowing the pair to build a decisive 161-run partnership.
Earlier, England were dismissed for 291, conceding a first-innings deficit of 100 despite a fighting maiden half-century from Matthew Fisher. Matt Henry starred with the ball, claiming five wickets as the hosts slipped from a promising overnight position.
With New Zealand reaching 252-3 in their second innings and Nicholls unbeaten on 119, the tourists are firmly in control and well placed to square the series at 1-1.
