Pressure is mounting on FIFA president Gianni Infantino after the football federations of Wales, Sweden and Serbia withdrew their backing for his 2027 re-election campaign, with England also expected to follow.

The revolt comes after FIFA abandoned a controversial proposal to sell a stake in World Cup commercial rights to private investors, triggering widespread criticism over governance, transparency and leadership.

UEFA and CONCACAF have also expressed a loss of confidence in Infantino, leaving what had been expected to be an uncontested fourth term facing growing uncertainty ahead of next year’s FIFA Congress.
