The Canberra Raiders held off a relentless second-half attack from the Warriors to claim a gritty 10-16 victory in wet conditions at a packed Go Media Stadium in Auckland.
Jamal Fogarty’s try with 18 minutes remaining gave the Raiders a six-point lead, but the Warriors dominated possession inside the 20-metre zone for the rest of the match.
With less than two minutes to play, Corey Horsburgh and Morgan Smithies produced a crucial try-saving tackle on Marata Niukore, holding him up over the line and sealing the hard-earned win in front of over 26,000 of the Warriors’ faithful.
