The Crusaders will host competition leaders the Hurricanes in a sold-out clash on Friday night with a home qualifying final still on the line, while winger Sevu Reece prepares to celebrate his 100th appearance for the club.
Reece reflected emotionally on his journey from arriving in Christchurch as injury cover to becoming one of the Crusaders’ most influential players, with coach Rob Penney praising his relentless work rate and game-breaking ability.
The match will also serve as the club’s Men’s Mental Health Match, with assistant coach Brad Mooar urging people to “talk it out rather than tough it out” as the team highlights mental health awareness.
Young midfielder Cooper Roberts could make his Super Rugby debut from the bench after overcoming injury setbacks, while the Crusaders will finish the season without injured star fullback Will Jordan.
Despite mounting injuries, Reece said the squad remained confident in its depth heading into the finals race.
