The European champions created the better chances throughout, while Argentina relied heavily on defensive tactics and were reduced to 10 players when Enzo Fernandez was sent off for a second yellow card late in normal time.
Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez kept Argentina in contention with several outstanding saves, but Torres eventually broke the deadlock from close range after Nico Williams’ headed pass. The final also featured a record-breaking 27-minute half-time show with performances by Madonna and Justin Bieber, attended by US President Donald Trump, as Spain made history by becoming the first nation to simultaneously hold both the men’s and women’s World Cup titles.
