Teen cricketer dies in Australia after training accident

Melbourne teenager Ben Austin has died after being critically injured when struck by a ball from an automatic bowling machine during a cricket training session at Ferntree Gully’s Wally Tew Reserve.

The 16-year-old, who was wearing a helmet at the time, was taken to Monash Medical Centre but did not survive.

Tributes have poured in from the Ferntree Gully Cricket Club, where he played, as well as from local sports associations and schools, describing him as a talented, kind, and much-loved young athlete.
