Teenager Tommy Watson scored a dramatic 95th-minute winner to seal Sunderland’s 2-1 victory over Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final, sending the Black Cats back to the Premier League after an eight-year absence.
Despite being outplayed for much of the match and trailing to Tyrese Campbell’s first-half strike, Sunderland equalised through Eliezer Mayenda in the 76th minute.
With Sheffield United temporarily down to 10 men due to injury and out of substitutions, Watson capitalised on a loose pass to fire home the decisive goal. The win caps a remarkable rise for Sunderland, who finished 16th last season and fielded one of the youngest sides in the league.
