British former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a serious car accident in Nigeria’s Ogun State that left two people dead and injured several others, authorities confirmed.
The crash occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and involved five men, with police and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) saying Joshua sustained only minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment and observation.
Two occupants of the vehicle, identified by Matchroom Boxing as Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, were killed, while two others were unhurt.
Officials have not confirmed who was driving at the time of the crash, and investigations are ongoing.
The FRSC said preliminary findings suggest the vehicle was likely speeding and lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre before colliding with a stationary truck parked by the roadside. The Ogun State Government said Joshua and another passenger were later transferred to a specialised medical facility in Lagos, where doctors confirmed neither required emergency intervention.
