Two Japanese boxers, Shigetoshi Kotari and Hiromasa Urakawa, both aged 28, have died from brain injuries suffered in separate bouts on the same 2 August fight card at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall.
Kotari succumbed on Friday following injuries sustained in a 12-round draw against Yamato Hata, while Urakawa died on Saturday after a knockout loss to Yoji Saito.
Both had undergone surgery for subdural haematomas.
The World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organisation offered condolences to their families and the Japanese boxing community.
Their deaths follow that of Irish super-featherweight John Cooney, 28, who died earlier this year from a similar injury.
