Labour politicians in the UK have reportedly accepted almost £300,000 in gifts, hospitality and overseas trips funded by Manchester City and the United Arab Emirates, raising concerns about political influence and transparency.
According to figures reported by The Sun, Labour MPs received £273,396 in UAE-funded benefits, alongside approximately £14,000 in Manchester City hospitality, including complimentary VIP match tickets for prominent figures such as Lucy Powell, Andrew Western and Jeff Smith.
The revelations have intensified scrutiny of Andy Burnham following his comments defending the club’s owners amid a financial misconduct controversy. Since 2012, the UAE has reportedly provided more than £467,000 in benefits to British politicians across several parties, with Conservatives receiving £174,133.
Transparency campaigners have questioned whether such generosity risks creating conflicts of interest, while Manchester City continues to deny financial wrongdoing and is appealing the findings against it.
