Will Warbrick’s return from injury played a pivotal role in the Melbourne Storm’s 30-24 win against the Dolphins, marking their third consecutive victory.
The match, characterized by its high-scoring nature and constant tension, saw a late game-saving tackle from Ryan Papenhuyzen and Sua Faalogo, which prevented the Dolphins from potentially pushing the game into golden point.
Warbrick, coming back from a hip flexor injury, wreaked havoc on the Dolphins’ makeshift left edge, especially after Jack Bostock’s early game-ending head injury.
Warbrick’s physicality and speed were instrumental in Melbourne’s attack, particularly in setting up tries and scoring himself. The first half was a spectacle with six tries, keeping the scoreline tight and exciting for fans.
The second half began with Warbrick leaping to claim a Jahrome Hughes kick for Melbourne’s fourth try, extending their lead.
Despite a 95-metre solo try from Jamayne Isaako for the Dolphins, who kept the contest alive, Melbourne maintained their composure.
The Dolphins had opportunities, including a crucial drop by Connelly Lemuelu, but could only add a penalty goal late in the game. Papenhuyzen also marked his injury return by scoring the opening try for the Storm.
