Warriors to farewell Luke Hanson after breakthrough NRL season

Luke Hanson departs NZ Warriors

One New Zealand Warriors rookie Luke Hanson will depart the club at the end of the 2026 season to pursue an opportunity in Australia after making his first-grade breakthrough this year.

The 22-year-old, who joined the Warriors in 2024 after coming through the Penrith system, advanced from the club’s Jersey Flegg and NSW Cup teams before debuting in the NRL against the Knights, where he scored on debut in a convincing victory.

Warriors recruitment and pathways boss Andrew McFadden praised Hanson’s development and contribution, wishing him well as he moves on. Hanson played a key role in the club’s successful NSW Cup campaign and has amassed 45 appearances in the competition during his time with the Warriors.
