Alexander Zverev finally captured the first Grand Slam title of his career after defeating Flavio Cobolli in a tense five-set French Open final in Paris.
The German second seed looked dominant early but was pushed to the limit by the 10th-seeded Italian, who forced a deciding set after a dramatic fourth-set tiebreak.
Battling nerves, double faults and signs of cramp, Zverev regained control in the final set as Cobolli faded, sealing a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1 victory.
The emotional win ended a run of three Grand Slam final defeats and made Zverev the first man outside of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz to claim a major singles title since 2023.
