How to deal with authorities – when should you call the police?

Alternative media commentators and independent journalists debated when — if ever — people should involve police or state authorities in their personal lives during a lengthy discussion on an episode of The Corbett Report.

The panel, hosted by James Corbett, featured contributors from several independent media platforms examining issues ranging from policing and self-defence to government authority and community-based security systems.

The conversation centred on whether individuals should rely on police in situations such as assaults, theft, car accidents and disputes with neighbours. Several panelists argued that law enforcement should only be used as a last resort, while others said police involvement can sometimes be unavoidable because governments maintain monopolies over courts, insurance systems and emergency services.

Some speakers promoted voluntary or community-led alternatives to policing, pointing to examples including private security services and self-organised community protection groups in Mexico. Others stressed personal responsibility, prevention and self-defence, arguing many conflicts can be avoided without involving authorities.

The discussion also reflected broader distrust among some independent media figures toward governments, policing institutions and centralised authority structures that intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic and other recent political controversies.

  1. I would view them as an absolute last resort and even then, only if its justified. Most negative situations can be managed by avoiding them to start with and the use of words, the firm but polite variety.

  2. NEVER TALK TO THE COPS WITHOUT YOUR LAWYER(S) PRESENT!
    The best policy; No Comment!
In other words, STFU around the Masonic donut gobblers!
And when in Court, always plea ‘NOT GUILTY!
