U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has directed prosecutors to begin legal proceedings into allegations that the Russiagate scandal was a politically motivated smear campaign orchestrated by Donald Trump’s opponents.
The move follows a referral from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who accused former President Obama’s administration and the legacy media of a “years-long coup” against Trump, weaponising intelligence to falsely tie him to Russia.
Trump, who has always insisted the probe was a hoax, responded by accusing Obama of treason.
Although Democrats maintain their position that Russia meddled in the 2016 election, the Mueller report found no evidence of Trump-Russia collusion.
Now, a grand jury will weigh new evidence, including potentially explosive emails suggesting Hillary Clinton approved a plan to portray Trump as a Russian asset.
Former officials like James Comey and John Brennan, long accused by conservatives of abusing their power, may now face legal scrutiny also as anti-Trump bureaucrats and officials begin to find themselves under the microscope.
