Cloudflare outage briefly knocks major websites offline worldwide

A widespread Cloudflare disruption on Tuesday caused major platforms—including X and ChatGPT—to temporarily go offline, with outage-tracking site Downdetector also affected.

The company reported an “internal service degradation” and began investigating as users across the globe experienced intermittent access issues.

Cloudflare, which routes and protects traffic for nearly 20% of the world’s websites, saw the outage ripple across many of its customers’ platforms.

The incident follows last month’s large-scale Amazon Web Services outage, underscoring how a single infrastructural failure can impact millions of users at once.
