US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle faced intense questioning from Congress on Monday regarding the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
The scrutiny has escalated, with a Florida congress member now calling for charges of inherent contempt and perjury against Cheatle.
During the hearing with the US House Oversight Committee, Cheatle described the incident at Trump’s rally earlier this month as a massive failure.
“The assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump on July 13th is the most significant operational failure of the Secret Service in decades,” she stated. Among those questioning her was Congress member Anna Paulina Luna, who represents parts of Pinellas County, Florida. Luna accused Cheatle of refusing to answer certain questions and claimed the director denied knowledge of suspicions about the shooter that were shared in a law enforcement group text chain.
Luna believes Cheatle’s testimony included perjury, stating, “I think that she perjured herself, and I told her that, and I requested a full transcript review, and for her to be brought up on perjury charges.”
Cheatle did acknowledge that the agency had been informed of a suspicious person “between two and five times” before the assassination attempt. Luna described Cheatle’s performance during the hearing as “terrible”.
Cheatle has since resigned.
Totally corrupt country.
NZ plays along with it too. Thats what you do when they hold your secrets, you owe money. Hummm. Coming to think of it, so does the rest of the west.
