A large-scale manhunt in Arizona concluded yesterday with the arrest of a 66-year-old man who had been threatening to kill former President Donald Trump during his visit to the Arizona border.
The suspect, identified as Ronald Lee Syvrud, a registered Democrat, was apprehended by police in Cochise County after making multiple threats against the 45th President on social media in the weeks leading up to Trump’s visit.
Syvrud, who has a criminal history including a 2000 conviction for second-degree sexual assault of a child, is currently facing multiple warrants. These include charges for a DUI in Wisconsin, a hit-and-run incident in Arizona, and failure to register as a sex offender. Details of his arrest remain scarce, but the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Syvrud was taken into custody without incident. The arrest was the result of a collaborative effort among various public safety agencies.
The threat against Trump came to light when a reporter informed the former president during a press briefing after his speech at the Southern border.
The incident follows the assassination attempt on Trump allegedly by 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, sx weeks prior during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
