Victim of brutal attack by illegal immigrant slams Harris’s criminal justice policy

In July 2008, Amanda Kiefer was brutally attacked and left with a fractured skull by Alexander Izaguirre, an illegal immigrant from Honduras who had previously avoided jail time due to then-district attorney Kamala Harris’s ‘Back on Track’ programme.

The programme, which aimed to provide young “nonviolent” offenders with job training and community service instead of jail, allowed Izaguirre to evade imprisonment despite prior drug charges.

Kiefer, who once identified as a liberal, has since thrown her support behind Donald Trump’s policies, stating that the personal impact of Harris’s initiative opened her eyes to the flaws in such soft-on-crime approaches.

Kiefer’s experience has resurfaced as a point of contention in the political arena, especially following a Trump campaign ad highlighting her story. This comes amid scrutiny of Harris’s role in the Biden administration, particularly regarding the handling of border security. As the presumptive Democratic nominee, Harris has promoted her image as a “tough prosecutor,” a characterisation that Kiefer has publicly called “laughable,” criticizing the programme’s design that allowed her assailant to remain free despite being unable to legally hold a job in the U.S.

Kiefer spoke recently at the border, as a guest of former President Trump.
