Denmark is set to become the first country to impose a tax on greenhouse gases produced by livestock, despite questionable evidence linking such emissions to climate change.
Taxation Minister Jeppe Bruus announced the levy, which will target cow, pig, and sheep ’emissions’ starting in 2030.
The new tax, amounting to 300 kroner ($43) per ton of carbon dioxide equivalent, is expected to significantly impact farmers.
While proponents claim it will help Denmark achieve a 70% reduction in emissions from 1990 levels by the end of the decade, many are skeptical about the real impact on global climate.
Critics argue that this measure is based on unproven claims about livestock emissions’ contribution to climate change and will place an undue financial burden on farmers.
With Denmark’s cattle population at nearly 1.5 million, the tax is projected to generate over $400 million annually, increasing to 750 kroner per ton by 2035. This policy is seen by many as a political manoeuver and wealth transfer mechanism rather than a scientifically backed solution, which threatens the livelihood of farmers for a questionable environmental benefit.
The goal is of course to reduce meat to zero and starve people: An engineered food shortage.
They literally want to tax the air your breathe. This is the point we’re at. America was literally founded over a 4c Tea tax.
Gallows are about a decade overdue at this point.
