‘Explosions’ and fire rock Toronto building (Video)

Police warned that propane cylinders were “possibly exploding” and that debris could be falling onto the street.

Police and firefighters responded to reports of a rooftop fire at a building under construction in downtown Toronto, Canada just after 6:00 PM Friday.

“Information received that items are possibly exploding and debris may be falling onto the street below,” the Toronto Police Operations Center wrote in a post on X, warning people to “use caution travelling in the area.”

The incident near Richmond Street West and John Street prompted road closures and pedestrian restrictions in the area, as emergency personnel rushed to the scene.

The Toronto Fire Services later said crews remained on the scene after a two-alarm fire on the roof of a commercial building on Richmond Street West led to ruptured propane cylinders, heavy flames, and thick smoke. Firefighters said crews protected the remaining cylinders and extinguished the fire, adding that no injuries were reported.

There were no reports of casualties. Local media footage shows thick smoke and flames rising from the rooftop.
