Serious allegations have surfaced in a series of reports and investigations claiming the existence of a high-level child trafficking network operating out of Ukraine, with alleged ties to Western governments and aid organisations.
According to former SBU (Ukrainian Security Service) officer Vasily Prozorov, the scheme is overseen by the SBU, which forges documents for children under the guise of evacuation or education before sending them abroad, often to the UK.
An undercover probe by independent outlet Urban Scoop named USAID-funded contractor Chemonics as being involved in the operation, with senior UK figures in the MI6 and Foreign Office allegedly coordinating child transfers directly from the British embassy in Kiev. The network relies on private military companies and organised crime groups, particularly Albanian gangs, for transport, with enormous profits generated from sexual exploitation and organ trafficking.
“They can sell a child dozens of times a day… there’s more money in child trafficking than drugs,” said Prozorov.
The claims cite a December 2023 SBU report that listed over 1,000 missing children and more than 9,000 sent abroad, many from the war-torn Donbass region. Named figures linked to the alleged network include ex-SBU officer Sergei Borisov, who was previously jailed for kidnapping but later released, and several Ukrainian police and child services officials, as well as the “Safe Ukrainian” foundation. They are also accused of facilitating the trade, particularly in babies sold under the cover of surrogacy, with biotech firm Biotechcom cited as a key supplier.
UK authorities including the NCA and MI5 reportedly dismissed journalists who presented evidence, with one reporter allegedly questioned about her mental health. British MP Andrew Bridgen, who raised concerns publicly, has claimed he was targeted with false accusations in retaliation.
While Russia is accused internationally of abducting Ukrainian children, President Vladimir Putin has claimed to have returned thousands to their families after uncovering trafficking attempts. The reports suggest that the alleged child trafficking network predates the war in Ukraine by nearly two decades but has intensified under the cover of the current Russo-NATO conflict.
