Gaza aid killings spur UN outrage

At least 86 Palestinians were shot dead on Tuesday—56 of them near relief depots—when “tanks and drones fired even as we were fleeing,” witness Ahmed Halawa said, describing the latest bloodshed around aid-distribution sites run by the U.S.- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).

Hospitals in Rafah, Gaza City and Khan Younis reported “a bloodbath” as emergency wards overflowed, with UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric lamenting that “people are being killed just for trying to get food because of a militarised humanitarian distribution system.” The death toll from Israel’s war has now topped 56,000, with more than 131,000 wounded since 7 October 2023, according to Gaza medical authorities.

UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini called GHF’s model “a death trap costing more lives than it saves,” while a coalition of 15 legal groups warned that the privatised, armed aid network “violates core humanitarian principles” and could expose its backers to war-crimes prosecutions.

Yet Washington has just allocated a first-ever USD $30 million to the foundation as more than 400 Palestinians have been killed and 1,000 injured at its sites in a month. “It is high time that leaders on both sides find the political courage to put a stop to this carnage,” Dujarric added.

Arab American Institute president James Zogby appealed directly to Donald Trump to lean on Jerusalem the way he claims to have restrained it from bombing Iran after a recent cease-fire.

“President Trump: If this really happened as you said it did, then why not use your power to tell the Israelis to end the genocide in Gaza and their intensified oppression of Palestinians in the West Bank?” Zogby posted on social media. “Just tell Israel to stop, turn around, and leave. Go for it!”

  1. The death toll reported, which has stayed static for months, is of those “officially identified”. They are now reporting 350,000 as “missing”, but the real number would be closer to 1,000,000, red misted or forever buried.

  2. This is appalling- a scene from the end of the world, the end of humanity and the end of civilisation as the scrabble for money descends into barbarity. GHF what is that?
