Greenland government warns residents to prepare for possible U.S. military action

Greenlanders told to prepare for possible attack

Greenland’s government has warned residents to be ready for possible disruption, saying a military confrontation with the United States cannot be completely ruled out.

Speaking in the capital Nuuk Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said authorities are establishing a task force to help the population prepare for potential impacts on daily life, stressing that while conflict is unlikely, it remains a possibility.

Finance Minister Mute Bourup Egede said the island is facing intense pressure and must plan for all scenarios. As part of that effort, officials are drafting new civil guidance for Greenland’s roughly 57,000 residents, including advice to keep at least five days’ worth of food supplies.

Trump has said Greenland is vital to US national security and has refused to rule out the use of force to secure control, after earlier floating the idea of purchasing the territory from Denmark. He has also threatened tariffs against European countries opposing his stance, including Denmark.

Denmark has since deployed additional troops to Greenland as part of an Arctic military exercise, though leaders in Copenhagen and Nuuk insist there is no immediate threat from Russia or China and say they remain open to security cooperation with Washington.

European officials have meanwhile warned that any US attack on a NATO ally would severely undermine the alliance.

  1. Hyperventilating much. Presedent trump is a property mogul where the chequebook is mightier than a sword. And it’s not the fist time a U.S. President has offered to buy Greenland. The Danish are all being a bit too dramatic now.
