Chilling details of 12-year-old Lola Daviet’s murder have left France reeling.
Dahbia Benkired, a 27-year-old Algerian migrant woman, faces charges of sexually assaulting, torturing, and killing the schoolgirl on October 4, 2022.
The trial, unfolding in France’s highest criminal court, the Assize Court, revealed that Benkired, who arrived in France as a teenager in 2013, was living in the country illegally after ignoring a deportation order issued just two months prior.
Prosecutors allege the attack stemmed from a personal vendetta, claiming Benkired targeted Lola after the girl’s mother, a building caretaker, denied her access to an apartment complex.
The courtroom atmosphere grew heavy as jurors viewed disturbing evidence, including photographs of Lola’s body, bound and compressed inside a plastic box, her face wrapped in tape, and her body bearing severe injuries.
The prosecution detailed a harrowing sequence of events: Benkired allegedly lured Lola into a flat after intercepting her on her way home from school, forcing the child to undress and perform sexual acts before suffocating her with adhesive tape.
The body was later abandoned in a container on the street, discovered by a homeless person late that night.
CCTV footage captured Benkired moving the container, hidden under a blanket, and making bizarre claims about “selling a kidney.”
The Daviet family, visibly devastated and wearing shirts honouring Lola, left the courtroom during graphic testimony.
