Twenty-six people are said to have been killed and around 150 injured after Israeli tanks allegedly opened fire near an aid distribution site in Rafah, southern Gaza, according to medics and residents.
Thousands of Palestinians had gathered for aid when gunfire erupted near the Al-Alam roundabout.
Locals used donkey carts to transport the dead and wounded to the Red Cross field hospital, as rescue access was blocked.
The Israel Defense Forces said it was unaware of any injuries from IDF fire and is reviewing the incident.
Former Israeli PM Naftali Bennett disputed the claims, tweeting, “Israeli tanks did NOT open fire on civilians in or near an aid center. Yet, it’s still the top headline on BBC and CNN.”
