Just Stop Oil activists vandalise Van Gogh artworks again

Climate activists from Just Stop Oil threw tomato soup over two of Vincent van Gogh’s famous Sunflowers paintings at the National Gallery in London, just an hour after two other activists were jailed for a similar stunt.

The activists, three in total, arrived at the gallery at 2:30 PM on Friday and attacked Sunflowers 1889 and Sunflowers 1888, repeating the actions of convicted offenders Phoebe Plummer and Anna Holland, who caused £10,000 worth of damage to Sunflowers 1888 last year. Despite the ongoing legal consequences, the group continues to push its extreme climate agenda, attempting to justify their acts of destruction as part of a so-called “noble cause.”

Phil Green, one of the participants in Friday’s protest, likened the jailed activists to “prisoners of conscience,” while 71-year-old Ludi Simpson, another protester, expressed willingness to face legal consequences but shifted the blame to fossil fuel companies and politicians.

The protest comes after the sentencing of Plummer, 23, and Holland, 22, who received two years and 20 months in prison, respectively, for their reckless actions last year. Judge Christopher Hehir condemned their “arrogance” and pointed out that their actions could have caused irreversible damage to one of the world’s most treasured artworks.
