Diners fled in panic after a group of masked youths stormed a busy cafe area in Melbourne’s Oakleigh on Friday night, leaving an 18-year-old man injured in a machete attack.
The incident unfolded shortly after 7.30pm at Eaton Mall, where CCTV footage shows a group of eight to 10 young males entering the outdoor dining area of Vanilla Lounge and confronting people seated nearby.
Witnesses reported chaos as patrons ran for safety while a violent altercation broke out, with one attacker seen wielding a machete. The victim was struck during the confrontation, suffering a slash wound to his face, and was later transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The group fled the scene on foot and remain outstanding, with police launching an investigation and appealing for witnesses or anyone with footage to come forward.
