A 23-year-old man from Kharkov has killed himself and three others after detonating an explosive device during a border inspection in Ukraine’s Zhytomyr Region, police said.

The blast occurred at Ovruch railway station while officers were checking documents of passengers attempting to cross into Belarus.

Among the victims were three women, including a border guard, while ten others were injured in the explosion.

Authorities said the suspect died in an ambulance after receiving first aid and had previously been detained for trying to cross Ukraine’s western border illegally.

Under martial law imposed by President Vladimir Zelensky in 2022, most men aged 18 to 60 remain banned from leaving the country.

Despite some easing of restrictions for younger men, at least 650,000 have fled since the war began, amid mounting reports of harsh and chaotic conscription practices that have fueled public anger.
