Manchester Airport incident: New footage reveals events leading to violent clash between police and civilians

New footage from the chaos at Manchester Airport shows a Middle Eastern man appearing to punch two female police officers moments before another officer was seen kicking and stamping on a man’s head.

This initial clip went viral, sparking nights of protests and intense scrutiny of Greater Manchester Police (GMP). In response, one officer has been suspended pending an investigation. The video reveals that the altercation began when three officers approached a young man at a ticket machine in Terminal 2, leading to a brawl where officers and civilians exchanged blows, resulting in two female officers being knocked to the ground.

The incident, which saw the use of a taser to subdue one of the men, led to the arrest of four men on suspicion of affray and assaulting an emergency worker.

Protests erupted in Manchester and Rochdale among the migrant community, with demonstrators accusing GMP of “racism” and calling for the police force to be “defunded.”

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched a criminal investigation into the officer involved, who faces potential gross misconduct charges for excessive use of force.

Greater Manchester Police reported that three officers needed hospital treatment, including one with a broken nose. The police response to the altercation has received both condemnation and support from various political figures. Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper have expressed concern over the incident. Reform UK Deputy Leader Richard Tice has called for the prosecution of the men involved to the fullest extent of the law, while others argue for a measured approach, emphasizing the need for the law to be applied equally to everyone, including police officers. The investigation into the full circumstances of the incident continues, with community leaders calling for peace and accountability.

Early clips of the incident showing an officer stamping on a man’s head and tasering him went viral, but did not include the full context of the officers defending themselves against a vicious and unprovoked group attack on the female officers.
