MTG criticises bombing Iran

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has voiced strong opposition to potential U.S. military action against Iran, criticising decades of American foreign policy and calling for a renewed focus on domestic issues.

In a lengthy statement posted to social media, Greene questioned the rationale for bombing Iran, saying she knows no Americans harmed by Iran but knows many affected by crimes involving illegal immigrants and drugs. She pointed to the lack of military action against drug cartels, despite their involvement in American deaths and illegal activity, contrasting it with the eagerness for war in the Middle East.

Greene criticized what she described as a long history of unnecessary U.S. military interventions that have left the country in debt without benefiting the American people. She referenced her own experience growing up during the Gulf War and her father’s service in Vietnam as examples of what she called senseless foreign wars. She argued that the military-industrial complex profits from these conflicts while American families struggle.

While expressing support for Israel’s right to self-defense, Greene rejected the idea of American involvement in Israel’s conflicts, saying she does not want to fund or fight in their wars or any other nation’s. She said she supports President Trump on many issues but disagrees with any move toward direct military action in Iran.

Greene stated that opposing war is not disloyalty, but a reflection of critical thinking, and pushed back against those who label disagreement within the Republican movement as betrayal. She accused Democrats of hypocrisy for supporting military funding for the war in Ukraine under President Biden while now opposing potential action under Trump.

She concluded by warning that the U.S. has once again been dragged into an escalating conflict, raising fears of Iranian retaliation and domestic attacks. She called for an end to what she described as the endless demand for war and urged leaders to prioritize the needs of the American people.
