Bradley John Murdoch, the convicted murderer of British backpacker Peter Falconio, has died in custody at age 67 without ever disclosing the location of Falconio’s remains.
Murdoch, diagnosed with terminal throat cancer in 2019, was serving a life sentence for the 2001 roadside killing near Barrow Creek, Northern Territory, and the attempted abduction of Falconio’s girlfriend, Joanne Lees.
Despite DNA evidence and a crucial hair tie linking him to the crime, Murdoch maintained silence throughout his imprisonment, resisting police appeals even in his final days.
The case, which captured global attention and inspired the film Wolf Creek, remains unresolved for Falconio’s grieving family. A coronial inquest into Murdoch’s death is now underway.
