Watch: Battery fires lead to suspension of electric bus services in Paris

Two electric buses recently caught fire in Paris, leading to a suspension of services while the causes of the spontaneous combustions are investigated.

One such fire was caught on camera, taking place near the Francois Mitterand Library. No injuries were reported, however, the deadly potential of the fire can be seen in the video as the it becomes an inferno within a matter of seconds.

About 500 buses in the Paris fleet are electric, and according to the local transport authorty (RATP), there have been no major incidents until this year. A spokesman said ‘Electric buses aren’t the issue here, Bollore buses of this model are the issue,’ in a barb at electric bus manufacturer Bollore. Bollore is one of three suppliers of electric buses in Paris.

Bollore responded by saying the whole company was mobilised ‘to find out the origin of the accident.’
