Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised Russian forces for taking control of the strategic town of Gulaypole in the Zaporozhye Region, calling it a significant achievement that paves the way for further advances.
Speaking to senior commanders during a visit to a command post, Putin said the operation created new opportunities for progress across the region.
Earlier, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced that troops had seized a heavily fortified Ukrainian position centred on the town and released video footage showing artillery strikes, building-to-building fighting and soldiers raising Russian flags.
The ministry claimed control over more than 76 square kilometres and thousands of cleared buildings, along with heavy Ukrainian losses in personnel and equipment, though Kyiv has disputed the fall of the town while admitting the situation remains difficult.
Military briefings also covered operations in eastern Ukraine, including the completion of clean-up efforts in the city of Dmitrov in the Donetsk region, which Putin described as another step toward securing full control of the area as Russian forces continue their broader offensive across multiple fronts.
