More than 99% of the votes have been counted so far, election commission says.
Incumbent President Vladimir Putin is expected to win this year’s presidential election, with over 87% of the vote, Russia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) has reported.
According to the CEC, more than 99.5% of the votes have been counted as of 7am Moscow time and Putin is leading the race with an estimated 87.3%.
His opponent from the Communist Party, Nikolay Kharitonov, is expected to come in second with 4.3%, followed by Vladislav Davankov of the New People party (3.8%) and Leonid Slutsky of the Liberal Democrats (3.2%).
Exit polls earlier showed similar trends, with the head of state expected to win the election with 87.8%. The exit survey was conducted among 466,324 voters at polling stations across the country.
This year’s election has clocked a historic high voter turnout, which topped 74%, according to data from the CEC.
The processing of ballots has already ended in most Russian regions. Putin has gained 94.12% of the votes in Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) and over 95% in Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), two of Russia’s new regions where citizens are voting for the first time.
The results from the Republics of Tyva, Khakassia and Yakutia, the regions of Zaporozhye, Kherson and Khabarovsk, and from Chukotka Autonomous Region also show the serving president leading the four candidates, with roughly 90% of the vote.
US is not a democracy
The Russian leader has called the political situation in the United States a “catastrophe”.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that by criticizing democratic processes in other states, all while using their own administrative resources to suppress one of American presidential candidates, Washington has become a laughing stock of the rest of the world.
Speaking to the journalists at his campaign headquarters in Moscow on early Monday morning, after the preliminary results indicated his victory with over 87% of the vote in the country’s presidential elections, the Russian leader said that the “whole world is laughing at what is happening” in the US.
“We are behaving with more restraint than their opponents in other countries, but this is just a catastrophe, not a democracy – that’s what it is,” Putin said.
Putin noted that the US administration is using all its power and resources to attack one of the presidential candidates, apparently referring to former president Donald Trump, who is facing a litany of lawsuits despite being the frontrunner and virtually the only remaining Republican hopeful.
In a pre-election interview earlier this week Vladimir Putin said that Russia does not meddle in foreign elections and will work with any elected US president.
“I think it’s obvious to everyone that the American political system cannot claim to be democratic in any sense of the word,” he said in an interview with journalist Dmitry Kiselyov. Putin refused to comment further on the current presidential campaign in the US, but described the atmosphere as becoming “increasingly uncivilized.”
The world is tired of the malfeasance of the USA its aggressivity, its vulgarity . And many are gloating at its demise, especially the downfall of the US $.
It is indeed not a democratie, but a plutocratie .
The US has been silently overthrown. Federal government has too much power.
The US is a Demonarchy
Mob rule
Every year on the 4th of July Americans revel in the lie of ‘the American Dream’
The greatest slave is the one who thinks himself free and a lot less work
America is a tax farm still controlled from England and the ‘Mother of all Central Banks’
Colonists won the war of Independence but lost the money war
Which is what it was all about
Divide and conquer
Works the same for everyone
US is a Globalist oligarchy and so are its puppet states, i.e. UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and most of the EU.
The biggest enemy of the United States is the United States federal government. It needs to be downsized by at least 10 and lots of agencies removed: CIA, DOJ, FBI, FEMA, DHS, IRS, CPS and so on.
What the federal government does could be done for free by a loose collaboration of the states themselves.
The US is an anocracy just like New Zealand. In its entire history, I can see little that speaks to the notion of democracy from its revolution driven by petty taxes on rich people, through to its civil war driven by the greed of pork barrelling robber barons and their political quislings, through to today where the hypocrisy of their failed system of so called capitalism is juxtaposed with a warped form of socialism, for the wealthy, most explicitly highlighted by public bail outs, of private, neo liberal companies.
