A Queensland psychiatrist has had strict conditions placed on his medical registration after complaints were made about his public commentary on gender medicine.
Dr Andrew Amos, a psychiatrist and academic at James Cook University, has been subject to sweeping restrictions imposed by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Medical Board of Australia. The conditions prohibit him from making online statements about gender-related issues and prevent him from having direct contact with patients.
The action reportedly followed complaints from transgender activists regarding comments Amos made publicly questioning the evidence base behind medical treatments for children experiencing gender dysphoria, including the use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.
The case has drawn criticism from the Australian Christian Lobby, which argues the restrictions raise concerns about freedom of debate within the medical profession. In a statement, the organisation said medical progress relies on open discussion and warned that disciplining clinicians for expressing concerns about emerging treatments could discourage professionals from speaking publicly about controversial issues.
The group also noted that debate over gender medicine for minors has intensified internationally, with some governments and medical bodies reviewing the strength of evidence supporting certain treatments. It added that Australia’s Family Court has recently scrutinised expert evidence presented in gender-related cases involving young people.
Advocates for Amos said regulatory bodies must balance patient protection with allowing clinicians to raise questions in the public interest. They are calling for the conditions imposed on the psychiatrist to be lifted and for a transparent review of how such regulatory decisions are made.
AHPRA and the Medical Board have not publicly commented in detail on the case, noting that regulatory actions involving practitioners are often subject to confidentiality provisions.

Nazi-stralia strikes again. Why would any Kiwi want to move to that dystopian s*** hole?
Dr. Andrew Amos and many others risk their livelyhood by speaking out.
So we say it: trans is a mental illness.
Stay out of society’s face or admit yourself to an institution.
