Police have arrested seven people over the fatal stabbings of 15-year-old Dau Akueng and 12-year-old Chol Achiek, who were attacked while walking home from basketball in Melbourne’s outer west earlier this month.
Homicide detectives, supported by the VIPER youth gang taskforce, carried out dawn raids across the city’s west and north, detaining three men aged 18 and 19 and four teenage boys aged 15 and 16.
Assistant Commissioner Martin O’Brien described the killings as “senseless,” promising increased patrols and community engagement as the grieving families prepare for funerals next week.
