More than 30 people were killed and at least 169 injured when a suicide bomber detonated explosives inside the Khadija Tul Kubra mosque in Islamabad during packed Friday prayers, with the attacker reportedly setting off the device after being stopped by security near the entrance.
Pakistani leaders condemned the attack on the Shi’a worshippers and vowed to bring those responsible to justice, while officials alleged links between the perpetrator and Afghanistan and accused India of involvement, claims both countries have previously denied.
No group has claimed responsibility, though the bombing comes amid Pakistan’s intensified counterinsurgency campaign against the Balochistan Liberation Army, which Pakistan has repeatedly accused India of supporting.
