Sunak told to come clean about financial interests in Moderna

The UK Prime Minister has come under fire for refusing to disclose if he has an interest in the pharma giant.

High profile UK media personality Carol Vorderman criticised Sunak on breakfast TV for preaching ‘open and transparent’ government, when he continually dodged accusations he is profitting from the UK’s COVID jab roll-out.

If the claims are true, Sunak’s position as PM would appear to be compromised given the conflict of interests apparent in the situation.

Speaking to ITV’s ‘This Morning’ show on Saturday, Vorderman said:

‘Rishi Sunak, our Prime Minister, co-founded a hedge fund called Theleme, and no one’s talking about it. Theleme invested, in the last few years, one billion pounds in Moderna shares. Rishi Sunak said he has put all his assets into a blind trust.

‘He has refused, and the Guardian was the last newspaper to report on this in November 2020. At that point he refused to say whether he holds assets in Theleme, and therefore Moderna.

‘So, that man, came out in front of 10 Downing Street as our Prime Minister and said ‘accountability’, ‘transparency’ and all of this.

‘If you are true to your word Rishi Sunak, tell us, do you own through Theleme or any other means, shares in Moderna. Because if you do, are we now talking about insider trading?’

Sunak has declined to comment so far. Since 2020 he has refused to tell media if he personally profits from Moderna’s business.
