Swiss prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into the French managers of a bar in the ski resort of Crans-Montana after a New Year’s Eve fire at Le Constellation killed 40 people and injured more than 100 others.
Authorities believe the blaze was triggered when sparklers on champagne bottles were carried too close to the ceiling, causing the fire to spread rapidly. Families continue to wait as the identification process progresses slowly.
Four young Swiss victims have been formally identified, while most of the injured have now been named, including Swiss, French and Italian nationals.
a bar at a swiss ski resort catches fire.
rather than run or respond, the patrons stand around dancing under it and filming it for instagram.
as a result, 40 people who could have reached safety died because they seem, quite literally, to have forgotten that danger is real.
