A 60-year-old man has been arrested after firing up to 100 shots “indiscriminately” at passing vehicles, including police cars, in Sydney’s inner west suburb of Croydon Park on Sunday night.
One person was seriously injured and 16 others suffered minor injuries in the attack, which prompted a large-scale lockdown and police operation involving tactical units, PolAir, and negotiators.
The man, who was reportedly shooting from a window of a unit above a business on Georges River Road, was arrested around 9:30pm and taken to hospital under police guard.
Multiple vehicles were damaged, but no police officers were hurt. Roads remain closed as investigations continue into the motive and circumstances of the shooting.
I'm at the scene in Croydon Park where last night and active shooter allegedly fired up to 100 bullets down into the street below. It caused the suburb to be locked down. 16 people treated at the scene, one person fighting for life in hospital. Details on @SkyNewsAust pic.twitter.com/TmT6gIeqfj
