The suspect armed with two large kitchen knives ended up detained by an off-duty police officer after the rampage.
Three women have been stabbed in a knife attack in the northwestern part of France’s capital. The rampage was cut short by an off-duty police officer, who subdued the attacker and took him into custody.
The incident took place near the Porte de Clichy metro station on Monday afternoon. Footage circulating online shows the 31-year-old suspect randomly attacking female passersby with two large kitchen knives.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said the attacker was confronted by a police officer, who managed to detain him. The three victims, aged 19, 24, and 36, were hospitalized, with two in critical condition, he added.
The motive for the attack remains unclear, as the suspect provided incoherent statements after his arrest, Nunez said, while urging the public to refrain from drawing premature conclusions. While the suspect is believed to suffer from unspecified mental disorders, media reports suggest that the man claimed “Allah ordered him” to attack the women.
The incident comes a day after a suspected hardline Islamist drove a van into a crowd in Germany’s capital city of Berlin, killing one person and injuring at least 29. After his vehicle crashed, the 21-year-old suspect reportedly proceeded to stab his victims before fleeing the scene.
The attack prompted a massive multi-hour manhunt for the attacker, who was ultimately found in west Berlin late on Sunday. The police said the suspect was shot dead at the scene after he refused to surrender and lunged at the officers with a knife.

His motive for the attack is unclear … I’d say by yelling allah made me do it it is very clear what his motive was. He’s an evil muslim and stabbing a pregnant woman is demonic. Which is what they are. Demons.
An attack on women of child bearing age sends a clear message to prevent births of that civilisation by killing the womb. Also recognize the attackers culture to succeed numerically by outbreeding the native population. But the police will always claim lone wolf mental illness because they can’t admit a pattern or a clash of civilisation.
