Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has filed a $10 billion lawsuit against CBS News, claiming the network “misled voters” with its “deceitful” editing of a recent ‘60 Minutes’ interview with Democratic rival Kamala Harris.
Trump’s legal team alleged the network aired two different responses from Harris to the same question about the Middle East conflict, one in a preview and another during the full programme.
Trump described the alteration as “the Greatest Fraud in Broadcast History,” demanding CBS lose its broadcasting license.
In Thursday’s filing, Trump’s team claimed CBS’s editing was a “partisan and unlawful act of election and voter interference.”
The lawsuit reads, “To paper over Kamala’s ‘word salad’ weakness, CBS used its national platform on 60 Minutes to cross the line… to deceitful, deceptive manipulation of news.” It accused CBS of attempting “to tip the scales in favor of the Democratic Party” and putting Trump at a disadvantage.
Legacy media outlet CBS responded with a statement later that day, denying any wrongdoing and pledging a “vigorous” defense. “The Interview was not doctored… Former President Trump’s repeated claims against 60 Minutes are false,” CBS stated, calling the lawsuit “completely without merit.”
CBS admitted to editing for time but has not released an unedited version of the interview.
The lawsuit lands just days before the November 5 election, with recent polls in key battleground states allegedly indicating a tight race, often within a margin of 1%.
