President Donald Trump dismissed 17 independent inspectors general from various federal agencies, including Defense, State, Energy, and Housing and Urban Development, in a move that some observers have called a “massacre.”

The firings, announced via email, bypassed the 30-day congressional notification required by law, raising questions about legality.

Inspectors general are tasked with investigating government waste and misconduct, operating independently across administrations. The firings are seen by some as part of Trump’s broader effort to consolidate power and replace independent officials with loyalists. The White House has not commented on the matter.
