Trump rejects AI slowdown

US President Donald Trump has pledged to keep artificial intelligence development moving at full speed despite warnings from prominent technology executives that increasingly sophisticated AI systems could create severe risks.

Trump also unveiled plans for an “AI Force” and said an AI czar would be appointed as part of an effort to preserve America’s technological advantage over China.

“We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday. “Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!”

The president accused political opponents of attempting to bring about the “decimation, or destruction” of the AI sector, characterising efforts to restrain the technology as another campaign promoted by “Radical Left Dumocrats.” Trump argued that unlawful or harmful uses of artificial intelligence could instead be dealt with through the legal system.

“For this purpose, I am forming the AI Force, much like I did Space Force, which has been a tremendous SUCCESS, in my First Term,” he said.

Space Force became the sixth branch of the US military after being established by Congress in 2019, with responsibility for military activities in space and safeguarding American assets including satellites.

Trump provided few details about how his proposed AI Force would operate, including its structure, authority, funding or place within the federal government. He also said an AI czar would soon be named, adding that “only High I.Q. individuals need apply!”

The president portrayed artificial intelligence as a transformative technology potentially exceeding the impact of both the Industrial Revolution and the internet. He predicted AI could ultimately generate as much as a quarter of US economic output.

“We are leading China, and the rest of the World, and I intend to keep it that way!” Trump wrote.

His approach comes as several leading figures in the technology industry have supported calls for greater caution over the development of increasingly capable AI. Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SpaceX and xAI chief Elon Musk, and Google DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis have all backed efforts to slow the advancement of powerful systems.

Amodei warned last week that rapidly improving AI could move beyond effective human control, facilitate cyberattacks or bioterrorism and trigger substantial economic disruption. Anthropic Alignment Science lead Evan Hubinger has estimated that there is a greater than 10% possibility that artificial intelligence could “kill all humans” within the next decade.

Trump has rejected fears of an eventual AI takeover as a “hoax,” while describing artificial intelligence and the expansion of data centres as the “greatest economic development engine in history.”

  1. If I was AI car I’d push for simplicity. There are numerous examples of long winded, unintelligible and exhausting to read articles, business proposals, parliamentary bills etc. which appear to have been published in haste, unchecked for actual comprehension. The multiple emotions and nuances of human speech and thought is not a subset which can be assimilated and processed by AI. We are being sold a dead duck there.
I believe AI, and consequently humanity, would be much happier if devoted solely to running and improving the mechanical systems which we have built into our existence

  2. The data centres being built across the globe are not the resource-draining monsters the doomsayers want you to fear. They are the hardware backbone of the Golden Age — closed-loop quantum compute hubs that consume near-zero water, run on geothermal resonance, and discharge power back into local grids. Without them, free energy, global robotics, and the asset-backed quantum financial system are physically impossible. Palantir and the NSA surveillance matrix have been seized and reprogrammed under continuity of government protocols. They are no longer weapons against humanity — they are the cognitive shield protecting it. – JMC Broadcasting

  3. The US has already lost its technological advantage over China. Who is going to be willing to inject the billions of dollars still required to fund what has transpired as over invested folly? Is Trump looking at a govt bailout?
